Fall Semester: September 12th to December 19th, 2009 Spring Semester: January 17th to May 16th, 2009 Boston University's Venice Studio Arts Program at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica offers coursework in graphic design or painting in a city whose museums, walkways, and canals form a truly unique classroom. Unlike other art programs in Italy - where American students only work and study with other Amercians - BU in Venice is based on interaction with the Italian community of students, teachers, and artists, in addition to working with Boston University professors. This element makes the program unique - students coming to Venice are, to all effect, young artists approaching their first residency in a challenging and professional environment. In addition to regular class meetings, students have access to the studios to work independently or with assistants. The Scuola is located in Cannaregio, the heart of Venice, and has wide, luminous studios in a harmonious balance of traditional and contemporary architectural elements. Field trips to Italian cities such as Rome, Florence and Milan, and visits to local museums and galleries complement the curriculum as part of the Art History course. Upon successful completion of a semester, students earn 18-20 Boston University credits.

Scuola Internazionale di Grafica
The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica is an established Italian art institution which brings together an international community of artists, teachers, and students in an exchange of technical and critical ideas in the fine and graphic arts. The Scuola offers courses in printmaking, book-arts, drawing, painting, and graphic design and is dedicated to educating young artists and designers in both established and experimental media. The Scuola provides a fully equipped print-workshop, a painting and drawing studio, and two computer rooms. DSL Internet connections are provided at the Scuola as well as in the students apartments.

For students in the Graphic Design track, the Scuola provides 10 iMacs, a digital camera, a CD-ROM masterizer, two scanners, and printers. Students use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and Claris HomePage to complete their course-related projects.

For students in the Painting track, Venice represents the ideal. The Venetian tradition of light can be fully experienced using the city as a resource. Facilities are ventilated and equipped for all painting and drawing media.

In addition to the regular classes, the Scuola organizes an intense program of visiting artists, who exhibit in the Scuola's gallery and work closely with students in special workshops, critiques and lectures. They are chosen among established and emerging artists, adding their experience and motivation to the program's international mission. Among them, such notables as Michael Mazur, John Ross, Clare Romano, and Tony Bevan.
