Caregiving is a major focus of research at our Center. We recognize that Alzheimer's profoundly affects not only the person with the disease, but also family caregivers. We have therefore designed several studies to address the many challenges posed by caregiving for someone with Alzheimer's disease (AD).
For example, Drs. Kathy Horvath and Rose Harvey have been developing educational materials designed to assist caregivers in the area of home safety. They are currently testing a home safety booklet that offers tips to caregivers on how to keep their home safe for the person with AD.

Dr. Robert Stern is leading the new multi-site AD Care study, sponsored by Forest Laboratories. This study is a patient and caregiver registry which follows individuals with mild, moderate, or severe dementia, and their caregivers, for 12 months in order to evaluate a new interview/questionnaire aimed at measuring the patient’s well-being and the caregiver’s overall quality of life. Interested caregivers should contact Stephanie Sikora at 617-414-1078.
Dr. Maureen O'Connor is the lead investigator in a newly funded study designed to increase caregiver self efficacy in order to maximize caregivers' utilization of behavioral management strategies to modify problem behaviors in individuals with AD and to reduce caregiver burden.
