When Irish eyes are smiling: Irish novelist Maeve Binchy (left) was the guest of honor at a gala dinner on March 12 for the William V. Shannon Memorial Fellowship at BU. The fellowship sponsors the event every two years to raise money for the fund's endowment and to celebrate the memory of Shannon, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Ireland from 1977 to 1981 and later became a UNI professor. Joining Binchy are Elizabeth Shannon, director of BU's International Visitors and Trustee Scholars Programs, and William Bulger (Hon.'96), president of the University of Massachusetts.
