Intramurals
What are Intramural Sports?

Leagues and tournaments are offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer. Intramural teams are made up of friends from residence halls and classes or students, faculty and staff members from various departments.
Teams are scheduled into leagues that run for five to eight weeks followed by a single elimination playoff tournament. Each team plays approximately one game a week in the evening or on the weekend. Men's, women's, and co-rec leagues are available in most sports and teams chose their ability division ("A" = Average or "AA" = Above Average) based on the experience level of team members.
If you are an individual who would like to join a team, please attend the specific sports captains meeting to try to sign on with a team as a free agent. There is no guarentee you will be able to land on a team, so please attempt to join a team prior to the captains meeting.

Every semester Boston University hires dozens of students to officiate our sport leagues. Many officials play in the leagues themselves and enjoy the flexible scheduling and active work environment.

2009 NIRSA Regional 5-on-5 Basketball Championship
February 27-28, March 1, 2009
For the 10th time, Boston University has been selected to host a NIRSA 5-on-5 Basketball Regional Championship. BU is one of only eight schools throughout the country to host one these very exciting qualifying tournaments, which are part of the NIRSA National Campus Championship Series. Our 2008 tournament was an overwhelming success as 36 teams representing more than 20 different schools competed for top honors with Boston College and Providence College besting the field in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively. This year’s tournament looks to be even bigger as intramural athletes from all over the region flock to Boston for a weekend of fun and competition, and an invitation to the National Championships in April, 2009.
We will begin accepting registrations from teams and officials from region one schools on December 1, 2008. For complete tournament information please download and review the Regional Overview located below.
