About

Professors Gopalan and Pal with graduate students.

The Division of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) plans to offer three graduate degrees: a Master of Science; a post-bachelor’s Doctor of Philosophy; and a post-master’s Doctor of Philosophy. The MSE Division integrates materials courses from Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry. Through coursework, collaborative projects, and dissertation research, students can specialize in biomaterials, electronic and photonic materials, nanomaterials and materials for energy and environment. Research areas include materials for clean energy conversion and processing, semiconductors, wide bandgap materials for solid-state lighting, tissue engineering, design of biomolecules and biopolymers, materials for MEMS and bioMEMS applications, among others. Students in the Division have access to world-class faculty with state-of-the-art experimental and computational facilities.
