Exhibition features postcards of Africa and Africans made from photographs produced in Africa between 1870 and the 1930s. Typically understood as a part of colonial discourse, postcards are a reflection of European stereotypes and feature images tied to and enacting imperialistic political agendas.
Keeping Time: Cycle and Duration in Contemporary Photography

Keeping Time: Cycle and Duration in Contemporary Photography

A group exhibition of contemporary photographers who deal with concepts of time, duration, and cycles (human, celestial, and photographic) in their work.

In creating their work, each photographer uses a different idea or aesthetic means to capture time and bookend their exposures. For example, some artists create rules or use outside activities to dictate when the shutter is open and closed. Others follow important celestial markers, like equinoxes, or human markers, like birthdays or conversations to determine their time frames. Referencing earlier motion and time studies, several artists alter their cameras or construct new forms of light recording devices.

On display November 7, 2008 through January 25, 2009. Hours are: Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm except Thursday until 8pm, Saturday and Sunday noon-5pm.

The PRC is always FREE to members, member schools, children under 18, BU students and faculty/staff. Also FREE to all on Thursdays and on the last weekend of every month.

Company One presents "ARTiculation"

While the country is ushering in change with the election of a new president, Company One is doing the same with a new kind of theatre. Set in the not-so-distant-future, ARTiculation follows the journey of six Boston poets as they weave their way through the vast jungles of their own imaginations. Armed with only words, this young diverse ensemble provides a mosaic of life, love, youth, religion and art set to a thundering mix of urban poetics and dynamic live theatre. Conceived by Tory Bullock and written by the performers themselves, Company One is proud to present this artistic revolution directed by Lois Roach.

Performances January 9 through 24. Runs for 90 minutes with NO intermission.
