Welcome to the Office of the Provost

Dr. David K. Campbell, Provost University Provost David K. Campbell

Welcome to the Office of the Provost website. I hope you'll find the space to be a resource for both faculty and students as well as those simply wanting to learn more about Boston University. This is a large and incredibly diverse institution focused on discovery and the attendant expansion and dissemination of knowledge. This focus is honed in our dual teaching and research missions. I think you will find, as you peruse the Boston University website, that we do excel in these missions.

The Provost is the chief academic officer of the University, overseeing the University's academic programs, research, personnel, resources, and support services. The University itself is comprised of seventeen schools and colleges offering bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees to over 31,000 students. Our highly regarded faculty counts among its members Nobel Laureates, MacArthur Fellows, members of the various academies (Arts and Letters, Arts and Sciences), winners of national teaching awards, and researchers of international reputation. Our talented students mirror this excellence with recent Rhodes Scholarship, Fulbright Fellowship, Goldwater Scholarship, Truman Scholarship, and Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship winners. This vast enterprise is supported by outstanding resources such as the International Programs office, University library system and Gotlieb Archival Research Center, and numerous academic centers and institutes.

Our modern research university is in an era of global intellectual exchange and collaboration. Scholarly, creative, or scientific projects cross not only individual departmental or institutional boundaries but national ones as well. This international aspect of higher education manifests itself in many ways at Boston University: we enroll one of the highest proportions of foreign students in our degree programs, host over 1,000 international scholars each year, and offer one of the most extensive Study Abroad programs in the United States. Research currently underway by members of the Boston University community literally spans the globe and is extended to the Colleges, where interdisciplinary, globally focused coursework enhances the academic experience of our students.

Boston University has a rich tradition of excellence in its faculty, students, and programs. I hope this website provides you with the information you seek.

With best wishes,

Dr. David K. Campbell
