At BU Sargent College, the study of human communication disorders combines an understanding and appreciation of scientific inquiry with a strong foundation in the basic sciences and the normal processes related to communication, swallowing, and cognition.
Speech Language Pathology and Audiology
Professionals in these fields utilize a deep knowledge of normal communication processes and apply this to the identification and evaluation of communication disorders, helping to develop and implement habilitative and rehabilitative programs for the communicatively impaired.
Program Focus: Preparing students to be clinicians, educators, consultants, researchers, administrators, private practitioners.
Possible Career Paths: Public schools, hospitals, nursing homes, early intervention programs, private practices, rehabilitation centers, special needs schools, and university teaching and research positions.
Undergraduate
This program is designed for students preparing for professional study in speech-language pathology or audiology at the graduate level and for the student interested in gaining general knowledge about communication sciences and disorders. Undergraduates should note that employment as a speech-language pathologist is not possible with only a bachelor’s degree.
Graduate
The Master’s program is fully accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Advanced graduate studies and Doctoral programs are available for those seeking additional professional training and research skills.
