Project Description
The proposed study, “Epidemiology, Etiology, and Consequences of Alcohol Use Among Asian American Adolescents” is designed to generate new results that will directly address unanswered questions that hinder our ability to address the alarming rate of increase in Asian American substance use behaviors. National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) and NLAAS (the National Latino and Asian American Study) will be utilized.
The specific aims of this study are :
- Identify alcohol use and alcohol-related problems among Asian American adolescents and young adults.
- We will examine the roles of potential risk and protective factors for risky alcohol use and alcohol abuse.
- Using Add Health data, we will examine associations between drinking behaviors and sexual behavior and health. These data will be a stepping stone for designing specific alcohol prevention programs for this population.
