Program Events

Group outings to Harvard Square, Faneuil Hall, and the theater. Movie nights and karaoke in the dorms. Soccer at Nickerson Field and Ultimate Frisbee on the Esplanade.

These are just a few examples of what students may participate in during the summer here in Boston. Program events help orient you to the city of Boston and help you get to know the other students in the program. And they're fun! Take a look at the schedules of events from last summer - they'll give an idea of how you can expect to spend your time while on campus. Optional and impromptu events planned by the program assistants and staff will also take place throughout the summer.

Also, we offer workshops entitled College 101. These workshops will focus on helping you with the college admission process along with how to succeed when you get to college. Admission Staff from Boston University along with Program Assistants will conduct the workshops.

Note: To help build a community among the Summer Challenge students, participation is mandatory for all planned activities. Students will have an opportunity to explore outside activities - such as practicing their musical instrument, touring Fenway Park, or shopping on Newbury Street - during scheduled free time.

Sample Schedule of Summer Challenge Events from 2009

Sunday, July 26

  • Check-in from 12-4 pm at 700 Commonwealth Avenue, 4th floor of Warren Towers
  • Student Orientation at 4:30 pm in Warren Towers Cinema Room
  • Dinner at 5 pm in the Warren Towers Dining Hall
  • Public Safety Talk at 7 pm in Warren Towers Cinema Room
  • Floor meeting with Program and Resident Assistants at 8 pm

Monday, July 27

  • Program Assistants will pick you up after class on the first day at 3 pm, then you will:
    • Get a Tour of the BU campus
    • Get your BU Photo ID Card (Please have your passport, license, or other IDs with you)
  • "Ice" Night: Ice Breakers and Ice Cream – meet at the elevator on your floor at 6:50 pm

Tuesday, July 28

  • International Students Only – This is mandatory for International Students to maintain visa status. A program assistant will bring you to the International office (Bring your BU Photo ID and passport). Meet downstairs of Warren Towers at 3:15 pm
  • Discover Faneuil Hall or be part of the Red Sox Nation (list to be announced on Sunday)
    Meet at the elevator on your floor at 6:15 pm

Wednesday, July 29

  • Discover Faneuil Hall or be part of the Red Sox Nation (list to be announced on Sunday)

Thursday, July 30

  • Choice of Afternoon Activity – meet downstairs of Warren Towers at 3:15 pm

Friday, July 31

  • Wanna Bet?! Test your luck at the Summer Challenge Casino – meet at the elevator on your floor at 7:45 pm

Saturday, August 1

  • Beach Trip to Hampton Beach
    Meet downstairs of Warren Towers at 9:00 a.m. (don’t worry, you can sleep on the Beach) - Pack $, SUNSCREEN, and towel!!!

Monday, August 3

  • "Say Cheese" – Photo Shoot – meet at 3 pm (go right after class) at Marsh Chapel (735 Commonwealth Avenue)
  • Enjoy Hah-vard Square – meet at the elevator on your floor at 6:00 pm

Tuesday, August 4

  • College Workshop with Boston University Admissions Office – meet at the elevator on your floor at 3:15 pm

Wednesday, August 5

  • Choice of Afternoon Activity – meet downstairs of Warren Towers at 3:15 pm
  • Movie Night – meet at the elevator on your floor at 7:30

Thursday, August 6

  • Dancing “Under” the Stars – Hawaiian Luau Themed Dance
    Meet at the elevator on your floor at 8:00 pm

Friday, August 7

  • FINAL PRESENTATIONS- from 10 am to 1 pm. Meet on your floor at 9:30 am
  • Reception afterwards – say goodbye to all the people you met over the past two weeks.
  • Program ends at 1:00 pm- Thanks for a wonderful two weeks!!!!
