2 hours (45 minutes lecture, 65 minutes hands-on exercises, 10-minute
break)
Throughout
the course of this tutorial, features that are new to Dreamweaver
MX or that operate differently than they did in Dreamweaver 4 are
indicated by the Dreamweaver MX icon.

- Define a connection to your practice site.
- Download practice files from your site.
- Create a library item.
- Insert a library item on your page.
- Edit a library item.
- Update all instances of a library item.
- Detach a library item.
Hands-on exercise: Working with library
items (15 minutes)
- Create a library item for your site's page signature.
- Add the auto-updating time/date stamp in your page signature.
- Insert the library item on your page.
- Edit the master library item to add an e-mail link.
- Allow Dreamweaver to automatically update all instances of your
library item.
- Synchronize and review your site.
- Create a template from an existing document.
- Create a template from a new/blank page.
- Define editable regions in a template.
- Apply a template to an unformatted page.
- Edit a template.
- Detach a template.
Break (10 minutes)
Hands-on exercise: Working with templates
(25 minutes)
- Open an existing document formatted with your page banner, navigation
menu, and graphics.
- Save as a template.
- Define your editable regions in your master template: headline,
subhead, and body content.
- Save your template.
- Create a new from template document and add some text
to the editable regions.
- Open an existing document that is unformatted and apply your
template to this page.
Hands-on exercise: Working with templates
and library items together (15 minutes)
- Insert a library item into a template.
- Edit the library item within the template.
- Edit the template which contains the library item.
- Multiple developers working on the same site.
- Developers working from multiple locations.
- Check In / Check Out system in Dreamweaver.
