Choosing colors

Fireworks offers you many different ways to choose colors. You can use the predefined web-safe color swatches, which assure that your graphics will look the same on a range of different computer systems. You can also create any new color using one of the color models described above.

An easy way to select a color is from the swatches panel. The swatches panel is in the same window as the color mixer. You can open it by selecting it from the menu bar [Window->Swatches].

The swatches panel

You get the same kind of swatches panel by default when you click on the small black down arrow (1) in any of the color boxes, such as that next to the fill color tool (paint bucket) in the tools window:

You can also see that the pointer changes to the eyedropper. In the top of the panel a colored square and the hexadecimal color value of the pixel over which the eyedropper hovers are displayed. You can use this to pick any color anywhere in the Fireworks work area. This process of using the eyedropper tools is called sampling.

The swatches panel also gives additional choices depending if you choose fill or stroke.
