Happier times for Pitino's hoop dreams. There was once a time when Boston was a place where former Boston Celtics Coach Rick Pitino could celebrate his winning ways as a team leader. Boston University was the first stop for Pitino as a coach; he led the Terriers from 1978 to 1983 and posted a 91-51 record (.641 winning percentage). Shown here are jubilant Terriers hoisting Coach Pitino high following a nail-biting 63-62 win on March 12, 1983, over Holy Cross at Northeastern's Matthews Arena. The victory made the Terriers North Atlantic Conference title champions and earned them a play-in NCAA tournament game against LaSalle. After he left BU, Pitino coached the Providence College Friars, the New York Knicks, and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Pitino resigned as president and coach of the Celtics on January 8.
